Nature’s Best® is Sweden’s only sustainability label for nature-based experiences. It was launched in 2002 during the United Nations International Year of Ecotourism.
The Swedish Nature and Ecotourism Association (Naturturismföretagen) is the governing body of the label.
Nature’s Best certifies Swedish ecotourism companies with an internal set of standards that have been recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council’s international criteria for sustainable tourism.
Nature’s Best is also a quality label that highlights sustainable experiences for conscious travellers, both national and international, and tour operators. This is achieved in part through the website naturesbestsweden.com, which lists all certified companies and where travellers can find sustainable destinations and activities.

Nature’s Best focuses on sustainable business development and is tailored to ensure high-quality nature experiences combined with stronger nature conservation, more environmentally friendly travel, and care for the natural and cultural values of the destination.
Companies that begin the process gain access to a digital tool where they systematically work through all the fundamentals of ecotourism and the requirements to get the quality label.
The labeling system is based on six fundamental principles. These form the core of what defines ecotourism and, by definition, deliver on the three intertwined sustainability dimensions – economic, environmental, and social.
Distinctive cornerstones of the certification also include that companies have conducted a destination analysis, environmental plan, and either an ecotourism or sustainability policy.
Additionally, there are various thematic criteria based on the activities conducted by the company, such as culture, fishing, accommodation, horse riding, wildlife, bird watching and more.
For a company to be quality labeled and approved, it must meet both the fundamental principles and relevant thematic criteria.
Swedish Nature and Ecotourism Association is the industry organization and the collective voice for businesses within nature-, culture- and ecotourism in Sweden.
